So Much for Having ‘Nothing to Gain’: Now Christine Ford Has $1 Million and Multiple Book Offers

One of the many flawed arguments that came out into the forefront during the Brett Kavanaugh was controversy was that Christine Ford had nothing to gain from coming out against Kavanaugh. At face value, that was ridiculous. Nothing to gain? She has the opportunity to change the balance of the Supreme Court for a generation and stick it to a president she thinks is ruining the country. That in and of itself is “something to gain”.
It turns out that if you still think she has nothing to gain, your definition of “nothing” may be a lot different than ours.
That’s at least the takeaway from a piece by journalist Paul Sperry and published on Monday by RealClearInvestigations. Perry found that the aftermath of the Kavanaugh hearings could be awfully profitable for Ford.
“In fact, Ford stands to gain some $1 million and counting from national crowdfunding campaigns launched by friends and other supporters, while she is said to be fielding book offers,” Sperry wrote.
“The potential seven-figure windfall, which she says she intends to cash in on – while still asking donors for more money – has some questioning her motivation for accusing the conservative judge after 35 years of silence, and whether it goes beyond personal or even political justice. Others worry the largesse sets a dangerous precedent: Crowdfunding, which unlike political donations is unregulated, could be routinely used in the future as a bounty for providing political dirt on opponents.”
A nice chunk of change wouldn’t you say?
One thing is for sure, Democrats botched the Kavanaugh thing. BADLY. In fact, they are even starting to admit it.
Democrat strategists are now publicly admitting that the Senate Democrats’ mistreatment of now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh harmed their chances in the midterm elections. The damage hit both their once-long-shot-but-now-virtually-non-existent odds at retaking the Senate and their very real shot at retaking the House.
“The Kavanaugh hearings did set us back, but it depended on geography,” Democrat pollster Ben Tulchin said in an on-record quote to Politico for a piece published Tuesday. Tulchin argued that Democrats were hurt in rural and suburban areas by the way they treated Kavanaugh, while bolstered in inner cities they were already set to win, saying “the more upscale districts, where we’ve done well all cycle, it was to our benefit there, and in more downscale districts with rural pockets, it was a challenge.”
Politico, in its piece, summarizes just how bad the polling shifted against Democrats in the wake of the Kavanaugh hearings.
The Democrats have moved on from Christine Ford. They don’t care anymore. They used her up and spit her out. At least she’s getting some cash out of it. Wasn’t a total loss for her.
