The father, in his 40s, was rushed to hospital and died of his injuries, according to reports.
Pictures show the father and his pal attempting to jump over the three metre wall at the zoo n East China's Zhejiang Province.
The second man, who was about to follow Zhang, was powerless to stop to beasts feasting on his mate.
As were his horrified wife and two children, who had entered through the front gates after buying tickets.
Footage shows the tigers ripping the man’s clothes to shreds and chomping down on his skull in the brutal attack.
After several failed attempts to escape, one tiger drags the blood-soaked man into the woods before ragging him around.
Speaking to the South China Morning Post, one witness said: “I saw the tiger mauling the person, whose face was covered with blood.
“Every time he sat up, the tiger pushed him down again.”
Horrified onlookers told The Beijing News the man, who was with his wife and kids, entered the enclosure around 2.30pm local time (6.30am UK time).
Cops and local forestry bureau staff arrived at about 3.15pm after the zoo was shut at 3pm.
It comes after a man revealed his gruesome facial injuries after being mauled by a tiger.
