The line for free fried food was 100m long and was similar to those formed by spectators regularly during these Olympics by spectators attempting to enter the venues or buy last minute tickets.

But McDonald's has come to the stars' doorstep and at lunchtime, with hunger beginning to bite, Russian, Pakistani, Americans and French athletes joined the throng.
